Getting It Done

On Thursday Kingston and I rocked out some errands. Speed was a by product of his lack of interest in shopping.

Welcome to the World Mason!!!

Congrats to Arthur (Jen’s brother) and Stephanie for the birth of their son (Kingston’s cousin) Mason Avery Kasas Boothe this morning at around 1:10am! He weighed in at 8lbs 3oz and was 21in long. We’ll have more details and pictures when we get to meet him later on today and hear their birth story.

There’s A Wind A Blowing

We like to mess with Kingston a little bit by blowing in his face, for no good reason except his reaction makes us laugh. For some reason when you blow in his face he sticks out his tongue, not sure what that’s all about. Is he trying to taste the air?

(We’ve also found that if he’s in the middle of a meltdown, you can lightly blow in his face and he’s a calm baby once again.)

The Incredible Sleeping Space Baby

Since Kingston spends most of his time sleeping, it’s pretty easy to pass him from one person to another or to lay him in his swing or crib without him waking up. What must it be like to float around while sleeping? What does he dream about? Does he ever wonder how he got somewhere? Does he like freeze-dried ice cream?

After watching him sleep Monday night in this outfit, we got a glimpse into his possible inter-planetary missions.

On the Wall

One of the coolest things about our birth center is the heart wall where all the baby names are posted. Every time we had a checkup we’d be sure to check out how many babies were born since our last visit and what their parents named them. On our visit to H2H on Monday we got to see that Kingston’s name finally made it to the board, as well as his new friends Dean (Allison and Ian) and Caelen (Mo and Sean).

Great Music, Beautiful Pictures

Thanks to our friend Aaron Maurer, we now have one really cool kids book, Forever Young by Bob Dylan, for Kingston to enjoy. This illustrated version of Bob Dylan’s classic tune is drawn with the art of amazingly talented Paul Rogers. Each page of the book is loaded with tons of easter eggs of Bob Dylan’s life story hidden within the illustrations; from Dylan’s inspirations, and friends, to the café where he first played when he made it to New York. We’ll have a great time together trying to discover it all. Here are a few spreads to give you an idea of look of the book as well as the original version of the song.

I wrote ‘Forever Young’ in Tucson. I wrote it thinking about one of my boys and not wanting to be too sentimental. The lines just came to me. They were done in a minute, and that’s how the song came out. I certainly didn’t intend to write it— I was going for something else. The song wrote itself. Some songs are like that.” —Bob Dylan

Mystery … or Mysterio Gift?

Today we received a mystery gift and we’re not sure who to thank. It may be just the creative Wry Baby company sending love to Kennedy Baby Co. or someone just forgot to include a card. Either way the gift was fun and unique and made us want to open it.

One of the Wry Baby product lines is the Mysterio products that predict what your child is going to be (on a nice tee shirt). There are 12 possible futures all in a sealed muslin bag. I loved the packaging and wanted to get inside. Here’s what Mysterio predicted for Kingston:

I’m not sure we can trust Mysterio, but we’ll just have to wait and see I guess. I haven’t heard of Wry Baby, but after checking them out, they have a lot of funny and creative offerings. Here are a few items I particularly enjoyed:

1st Father’s Day

For my first Father’s Day Jen had a card written from Kingston and dressed him in this cool H&M onesie that said “I Heart Dad”. We had a lazy morning until my parents came over for lunch and my dad’s favorite dessert, Key Lime Pie. It’s the first Father’s Day in years that I’ve been able to spend it with my dad, so it was cool to have him here. They hung out for a few hours and got as much Kingston time as they could before leaving for home in the early afternoon.

We napped in the afternoon before Jen’s family came over for dinner and dessert. Jen’s aunt Denise and cousin Brittney were in town and haven’t had a chance to meet Kingston yet, so they tried holding him when they could pry him from Grandma Bev. This was a cool Father’s Day because Kingston had a great-grandpa and grandpa there. We hung out, had some dinner and afterwards some cookie cake and cupcakes. All in all it was a pretty good first Father’s Day, keeping it simple and low-key at the house.

Meeting Grandma & Grandpa Kennedy

My parents came into town late Thursday night and couldn’t resist a little tummy time with their first grandson Kingston. We all had some fun times hanging out and catching up while rolling around on Kingston’s cushy carpet.

Keeping Calm

There’s a thing called the 5 S’s to soothe your baby if he’s going mad. Swaddling, Side, Sway/Shaking (gently of course), Shhhing, and Sucking. Many of them work, but Kingston loves to suck on everything, his hands, straps on his carseat, his clothes, you name it, and your thumb/fingers.

Here’s the result of this technique:
